5 new sports for 2020 Tokyo Olympics
In August 3th, the Tokyo Olympic Game in 2020 includes 5 new program of sports after 2 years of vetting. These 5 sports are baseball, rock climbing, karate, surfing and skateboarding, among which baseball comes back to the stage of Olympic after 20 years.
Expect for baseball, other 4 sports are making their debut in 2020 Olympic. The new programs are only confined in Tokyo games at present, whether it will add in to the future games has not decided yet.
18 events and 474 competitors will be added to the program. The 2020 summer games in Tokyo will contain 33 sports and over 11,000. compared to the number of 28 sports and 10,500 athletes in usual game.
After the Korean national baseball team won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and second place in the 2009 World Baseball Classics, many lukewarm fans became avid spectators and the popularity of the sport continued to grow. Over time, spectators took on a greater passion for the game, turning stadiums into popular gathering spots serving as an outlet of energy for fans of all ages.



Baseball in Korea
Baseball is one of the most popular sports in Korea. Since its introduction in 1982, the sport has drawn a total of more than 100 million spectators. In 2012, the number of baseball fans flocking to the stadiums made headlines by surpassing 7 million. Although the figure slightly decreased to 6.75 million in 2013, it still exemplified the enduring popularity of professional baseball in Korea.
