There are many cinemas in Bangkok and here is a list of them. Maybe it would a good choice to watch a movie on Valentine's Day with your love in 2016. If you're not the local and dying to see a movie, it can be a bit frustrating to figure out which movies are showing at what times and where the movie theaters are. Sure, you can just show up at any Bangkok mall and visit the movie theater to find out what’s playing, but it’s a whole lot easier if you can plan your movie trip before.
Most cinemas in Bangkok are located in shopping malls, and are dominated by the Major Cineplex company, which owns the Major Cineplex, EGV, Paragon Cineplex at Siam Paragon and Thailand's only IMAX theatre. The second biggest operator is SF Cinema City, with branches at leading shopping malls like MBK Centre and the Emporium. Smaller chains include Apex in Siam Square, Thana Cineplex, Major Hollywood and UMG.

Major Cineplex
One of Thailand’s main movie theater chain, with movie theaters in shopping malls all over the country, Major Cineplex has a nice website too. Here, you can check which movies are showing at malls like Esplanade or Siam Paragon, what the movie times are and watch video trailers. Major Cineplex also runs excellent promotions, so do check here for deals on ticket prices before showing up.
If you have questions, they also have a list of phone numbers for each of their theaters — although it may be difficult finding someone who speaks good enough English to answer.
Location: The Esplanade Cineplex Ratchada; Sukhumvit (Ekamai)
MRT: Thailand Cultural Center (The Esplanade)
BTS: Ekamai (Major Sukhumvit)
SFX Cinema
SFX Cinemas is Thailand’s other main movie chain, with locations at the shopping malls Major Cineplex isn’t at. Their website is in mainly Thai, unfortunately, although there is enough English to figure out movie times and all the other information you need to decide if a movie is worth going to see. Designed under the 'boutique chic' concept, SFX Cinema at The Emporium shopping centre is stylishly decked out in a sophisticated black and scarlet colour scheme. The venue features five 200-seat cinemas, with stylish cream-coloured leather seats of various grades.
Location: Sukhumvit, Phrom Phong
BTS: Phrom Phong
Tel: +66(0)2 268 8888
How to get there: Take exit 2 from the BTS Phrom Phong, and the walkway leads you right into The Emporium shopping mall.
Century Movie Plaza
The eight-story Century Movie Plaza is a lifestyle complex with eight cinema screens, food courts, a shopping arcade, karaoke club and edutainment area all in one place. It is the best cinema in the Victory Monument area, with 2,000 seats and futuristic interior design.
Location: Soi Rang Nam, Phaya Thai Road
BTS: Victory Monument
Tel: +66 (0)2 247 1111
How to get there: Take exit 2 from the BTS Victory Monument and the walkway leads you right into the Century building.
Movieseer
One of the best ways to find out movie showtimes in Bangkok is by getting online and looking at Movieseer. A Thailand-Malaysian based company, they have listings for every movie theater in Bangkok, even the art theaters, as well as theaters all over the rest of Thailand. You’ll also get a synopsis of the movie, a video of the trailer and all the updated movie times.
If you want a good deal for your money, your best bet is to see a movie at one of Apex’ theaters, as they really do have some of the cheapest movie tickets in Bangkok.
Something You Need to Know
The most important thing to be aware of when you attend the cinema in Thailand is that you will be required to rise for the Royal Anthem in honour of His Majesty King and the Royal family before the movie starts.
Language and Subtitles
In central Bangkok and touristy cities like Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Phuket, foreign films (such as Hollywood releases) have the original soundtrack (or 'soundtrack') with Thai sub-titles. Major cinemas playing Thai and other Asian films usually provide English subtitles. Check with the cinema first to avoid disappointment.
